Throw your bags in the boot and head north to the Victorian High Country. First stop is Mount Buffalo Lookout for a picnic to end all picnics. You’ll abseil over the cliff’s edge to dine on a portaledge 300 metres above the valley floor. Tomahawks is like an edgy bit of Melbourne dining in the country. Plates such as sticky lamb ribs with tamarind lime dressing, crushed peanuts and Sriracha mayo are designed to share; and the drinks list features quality local beer and wine. Unwind when spending the night in an off-the-grid cabin nestled in the middle of an olive grove. The Shacky is a tiny home hidden away among the trees where you’ll swap watching TV for watching the roaring fire. Don’t leave the High Country without stopping off at Clear Spot Lookout, overlooking Bright from the south. There are picnic tables for you to enjoy the local produce you’ve picked up along your travels.
